London based producer ‘Dub Motion’ rounds off a successful year with his latest self-released single: ‘Jungle Fever’.
Building on his earlier 2018 releases, ‘Funk Phenomenon’ and ‘Feeling U’ (released as part of the third instalment of Shogun’s ‘Point of Origin’ series alongside artists such as Document One and Data 3), Dub Motion maintains momentum with an aggressive, energetic banger. It is no surprise that the tunes been receiving support from notable selectors, including a feature in Friction’s most recent essential mix.
The track opens with an ominous melody (clearly inspired by Hype’s similarly named 1994 classic ‘Dub Plate Fever’) set upon a rich soundscape of voices and ambient noises. The already-tense atmosphere intensifies with the increasing tempo of the kick drum as the introduction reaches its apex. ‘Jungle Fever’ drops with the full force of the jungle, showcasing the distinctively heavy throb of Dub Motion’s low-end sound design partnered with chaotic, punchy drums.
The breakdown features an interview stressing the home-made, underground nature of Drum and Bass as a genre. Drum and Bass is going back to its roots, with producers like Dub Motion bringing contemporary flavours to old-school sounds. If the hype surrounding Chase and Status’ ‘RTRN II JUNGLE’ hasn’t given you the Jungle Fever, this tune sure will.
